Key Concepts

Structure register. Every bridge and culvert is a Structure Asset with type, material, environment (inland/marine/floodplain…), traffic volumes and what it crosses (road, rail, waterway). The Maintenance Envelope defines how far the maintenance responsibility extends around the structure (approaches, upstream/downstream).

Component groups. Servicing requirements are organised around common component groups — deck surface, substructure, superstructure, timber elements, culverts, guardrail, signs, waterway, approach embankment — rather than per structure type.

Servicing activity catalogue. Each activity (e.g. 805R1 timber preservation, 815R2 deck cleaning, 850R1 emergency propping) carries its relevance flags (timber/steel/concrete bridge, culvert), default frequency, unit of measurement, and a detail block: restoration standard, plant/material/ manpower requirements, procedure steps, planning points and approval requirements (environmental, watercourse, rail access, chemical use…).

Evidence-based frequency variation. A schedule's frequency can be extended after at least two cycles show little condition change, or halved when it proves insufficient — each change recorded as a Frequency Variation with evidence, approver and review date, never as a silent edit.

Defect escalation. A defect found during servicing is either rectified within scope, or — if outside servicing scope — raised as an Inspection Issue requesting a Level 2/3 inspection, with Structures Division advice where structural capacity is affected.

Compliance records. Chemical applications (termite treatment, preservatives) are recorded with product approvals, operator qualifications and locations; work orders carry photos, measurements, sketches and approval documents as Work Evidence; costs are broken into labour/plant/material/ contractor components.
